{"id":855,"date":"2023-10-04T16:13:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T16:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maslabor.criticaldev.site\/2023\/10\/04\/important-update-minnesota-earned-sick-and-safe-time-esst-obligations\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T13:30:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T13:30:38","slug":"important-update-minnesota-earned-sick-and-safe-time-esst-obligations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maslabor.com\/es\/2023\/10\/04\/important-update-minnesota-earned-sick-and-safe-time-esst-obligations\/","title":{"rendered":"Important Update: Minnesota Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) Obligations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"sqs-html-content\">\n<p class=\"sqsrte-large\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><span class=\"sqsrte-text-color--lightAccent\"><strong>The law goes into effect on January 1, 2024, and requires Minnesota employers to offer paid leave to employees. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"sqsrte-large\" data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">A few clarifying points about the upcoming Minnesota Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) Law:<\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\" style=\"margin-left:40px;\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">The requirement extends to all workers (full-time, part-time, year-round, and seasonal\/temporary). Therefore, your foreign <a href=\"https:\/\/maslabor.com\/es\/inquiries\/\">H-2 workers<\/a> will be entitled to these benefits.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">The ESST entitlement is accrued at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours an employee works, to a maximum of 48 hours per year. Unless you front-load the hours, you must allow unused hours to carry over into the following year (to a total maximum accrual of 80 hours per year).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">If you already have an existing leave policy in place, such as PTO, it might already satisfy the ESST law&#8217;s requirements.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">To ensure a comprehensive understanding of this law, Minnesota-based employers and employees are invited to attend an informational webinar detailing the ESST&#8217;s specifics. The webinars are scheduled for Oct. 5, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and Oct. 11, from 2 to 3 p.m. Kindly note that both sessions will offer identical content.
